Kirkwall Office

In May, Clark Thomson moved a few hundred yards to our new location at Covingtrie House, Kirkwall from our previous offices in Albert Street where we had been since 2001.
Covingtrie House is a traditional stone former warehouse which we purchased and have completely renovated over the last three years. Our new offices provide modern accommodation within a striking traditional exterior of stone and slate. One feature is energy conservation, with central heating being provided by ground source heat drawn from below the building and feeding underfloor heating on the ground and upper floors.
The opening ceremony was performed on a June day of warm sunshine by Orkney MSP Mr Liam MacArthur and the celebrations were attended by our staff, Clark Thomson directors and several guests associated with the project. This level of investment is a measure of our commitment to Orkney and our desire to contribute to the quality of the built environment in the oldest part of Kirkwall.
As a matter of interest, the name of our new building is taken from a wealthy and influential local family who owned a townhouse adjacent to our present site. Sadly, the family name seems to have died out in Orkney several generations ago. We are proud to resurrect this old Orkney name to give to our new Kirkwall Branch office for the 21st century
